Looking for best definition of Hurricane Hole

HI All,, I've posted in the forums earlier this year with questions on the Westsail because I write a romantic sailing mystery series featuring a 32 ft. Westsail--we sailed a Hylas 47, so I need to get my facts straight!

My second book, Hurricane Hole, is about to be published, but I'm finding that a lot of non-sailors are going to need a definition of the term hurricane hole--which as we all know can be an oxymoron when said shelter turns out all wrong.

I'm offering a kindle version, or E-pub (for Nook or Kobo) or print book (continental U.S for print only) and a mention in the credits to the best humorous definition.
Here's my contact info: rebeccadahlke@gmail.com

Cheers!

Re: Looking for best definition of Hurricane Hole

in fiji and other places i have seen at the beggining of hurricane season, a jcb excavator turn up in the boat yard and start digging holes, these then get lined with used car tires, then yachts are placed in the holes!

now that is a hurricane hole!,though probably not what you meant!

What atoll is describing can be seen in this video: Putting Entr'acte in "The Grave" for the Fiji Cyclone Season - YouTube

How about: a tight secure anchorage protected from all directions. Example: Hope Town, Abaco, Bahamas and Hurricane Hole in Nassau.
