I just watched an interesting documentary on the life of Joshua Slocum. You may have seen it before but it is on

My dad and grandfather back in the 70's built a replica of the Spray. It took the 4 years to build. It was a great boat! Sadly it has gone to the great boatyard in the sky.

A very good documentary well worth watching. I have read "Sailing Alone Around the World" several times and still learned a lot about the man.

He built, or re-built the Spray plank by plank "with a tree growing through her" (!) for $553 in 1895, according to the documentary. That equates to about $15,000 in today's money. That is hard to imagine and must have been even harder to accomplish.
