All
beer is good to a thirsty man.
I found that home brewing causes many problems.
Many years ago I returned to my
boat after a
beer drinking session at a yacht club with a group of fellow football fans.
Now we all know the feeling of badly needing a cleansing ale before
bed. My problem was all I had aboard was freshly bottled alcoholic ginger beer.
A touch of yeastiness induced me to try filtration with paper towels folded into a funnel. A quick spurt then a slow drip convinced me of the folly of gravity induced filtration. The solution - enhance gravity to speed settlement.
A cord tied around the neck of the bottle and am empty space beckoned but where on a
sail boat with masts and
rigging.
Inspiration, the dingy with a long painter.
I figure I had her up to about 10 g,s when the
knot pulled over the neck of the bottle which promptly sailed off into the night on a ballistic trajectory.
Concurrent with a crashing sound from the adjacent
multihull I found myself lying in the
bilge the missing weight having unbalanced my footing.
The sublime nature of a beautiful starry night sky and the shrieks of outrage beating upon me from out of the night convinced me that a knap, well hidden, in the dingy
bilge was not too bad an idea before taking on the onerous struggle of re-boarding the parent vessel.
Bloody dangerous stuff home brew.
