Getting married in the Caribbean

My boyfriend and I are planning on getting married during our 6 month-1 year tour of the Caribbean beginning next year. Has anyone been to any inexpensive, small places for a destination type wedding? We don't want more than like 20-30 people but we really don't want to do the resort thing. More like a ceremony and dockside restaurant somewhere. We plan on sailing the entire Caribbean so anywhere in the islands would be fine!

If you're American it's easiest and most straight-forward in a US territory like Puerto Rico or here in the US Virgin Islands.

first a bit of on line research on what is required would be in order -- you would not want to get down there and find you do not have the proper paperwork
second -- what do you mean by the entire carib? east side and west side --
in one year you plan to sail the entire carib - what are going to do about hurricane season?
a lot of the islands have marriage packages - you do not need a resort but an airport to fly people in to and a place to stay --
there are a lot of islands as i am assuming that you are looking at the eastern carib only - a bit of on line research would do you worlds of good

By "sailing the entire Caribbean", you are really only just talking about the string of islands in the Eastern Caribbean? Should be no problem - they are full of bars and dockside restaurants, as well as locals with legal marriage capacities, etc. You can find inexpensive and small right alongside expensive and big.

Have skippered a few wedding charters in different places. Sometimes the legality issue gets vague/complicated. You might want to consider a civil ceremony just to make sure its all legal and in a legal venue you want, and then have the more celebratory ceremenoy whereever and however you wish without legal concerns or vice versa.

Finish your paperwork (obtain a Marriage license) at the City Hall were you live. Get married by a Justice of Peace (Judge), at a local court house. Once you have these "official documents" in your possession, celebrate with your friends and relatives in the Caribbean. I suggest St. John - USVI, for your celebration. Enjoy!

We're U.S. citrizens, got married on Nevis April 16, 2011 at City Hall. Nice folks, we wore shorts and flip-flops. Do it and save the dough that everyone expects to spend on weddings. You're doing it right, and congratulations!

Get married close to your family. Dont make them fly to your honeymoon location, unless they have lots of money. If my daughter expected me to fly to another country hotel and all, As much as I love her I would have to miss the event. It may be fun for you but impossable for others.
