What part of the PNW
are you in? If you're thinking fishing Puget Sound
, you'll only catch anything when the Salmon are running (late summer/fall); and you'll have to figure out which ones you're allowed to keep. You could bottom fish
for starry flounder, but after catching a couple myself, I don't think I'd eat them. Rockfish are delicious, but they're closed in the sound, you'd have to go out to Neah Bay to keep them (which is what we would do). There is a 6 week long lingcod season in the spring in the Sound, and winter
blackmouth can be a thing too if you put in the effort (which is not small). Unfortunately, you likely won't catch much in the sound with just simple trolling surface/shallow lures; only exception might be pink salmon when they're in (every other year, odd years I think).
If you're along the coast, you can catch Albacore in the summer along with Salmon Lingcod and Rockfish.
