Re: Film "The Mercy" (Donald Crowhurst Story)

I think the movie “Crowhurst” was bought by the production company that was releasing “The Mercy” in order not to release it in competition with their own movie. It seems neither knew of the other’s existence until they were well underway and the bigger budget pic had more to lose so they bought out the other.

Will be interesting to see if Crowhurst is ever released.

As per the Hollywood Reporter article:
Perkins claims the exact release of The Mercy is still being arranged, with an as-yet-announced U.S. distributor having now come on board, but February looks like the most likely option. And as per the stipulations of the deal, Crowhurst will follow — also theatrically — a few weeks later in the U.K.
So, at least in the UK, it will be seen. Hopefully here in the US too...

I hope the movie also gives a nod to the real hero of this race Sir Robin. I’m sadly old enough to remember following the race on the radio and in the newspapers it helped to shape my life

Indeed but there is a limit to the fun things a nine year old can get up to…now the eighties…

Sad but wonderful story....

Just finished reading Bernard Moitessier's "The Long Way". His solo nearly a year's sailing was low budget. He fixed everything himself because his boat was a simple basic boat... Such an admiration for this man!

Re: Film "The Mercy" (Donald Crowhurst Story)

Anyone see this yet? A quick google says Feb 8th in Australia but I see no US showings.
As a tri fan and having read about it I think I should see it on the big screen.
If anyone here has seen it, is it worth the movie ticket?
Or should I just wait and see it on the big screen onboard, which with a 32" lcd just 8' away with sub woofer surround sound it does rival a movie theatre .... and surpasses it when a wake rolls through, ha!

Well, I like a film with a happy ending. I wonder if this film has one.

Re: Film "The Mercy" (Donald Crowhurst Story)

Well after a long wait we just got to see this movie. This race inspired me as a nine year old and i enjoyed the movie. It is a tad depressing but then so was the reality. What really surprised me was the large amount of empty seats on a premier showing ( in my area). Maybe non sailing types find it boring
