Great Video. I grew up in Wilmington, In the 50's the local amateur
radio club used to launch a field day operation from Bald
Head Island. We moved everything by
boat from Ft
Fisher (radios, generators, tents,
food and lots of mosquito repellent). There was nothing, I mean nothing on that island (light house excepted) . A local pilot used to fly surf fishermen in and they would land on the beach.
Hard to believe what a classy development it has become. Passed out the mouth of the Cape Fear River about 10 years ago moving my ship from
New Jersey down to
Florida. Kind of sorry I didn't stop and visit. We hit 10 knots riding the river ebb, not sure I could have slowed down to make the left turn.
Will have to take the
ferry over if I ever get back to Wilmington.
Thanks again. Figure Eight Island back up the
ICW north of Wrightsville Beach was also just sand. Not nomore.
