Re: Can Justin Bieber use a tour in the Marines
I think Canada has a federal law prohibiting citizens from enlisting in the armies of foreign countries. Thousands of Canadians served in the US military in Vietnam, but no record exists of the actual numbers, since they had to keep a low profile while doing so. The Canadian Government looked the other way, just as they did when American draft dodgers of the same era entered Canada. Back to Bieber. He played a concert in Vancouver a year or so ago, and the stadium is just across the street from us. Ya should a heard the little girlies screaming. It just has to go to your head. I never did see the "Biebs" but I sure heard the fans.

Used to be and I hope still is, a good way to get your citizenship in the US was to serve a tour in the military

It is. I saw eight people become citizens at a boot camp graduation this past September.

Re: Can Justin Bieber use a tour in the Marines
I think it would have done Bieber a world of good if Boaty had dragged him behind the boat all the way Portugal. But I guess that hair would have slowed Boaty down too much.

Re: Can Justin Bieber use a tour in the Marines
You may want to view the film Restrepo about at battle brigade in Afganistan done a few years ago. Justin would fit right in with that bunch of morons, especially their prayer meetings.
I,ve never met an ex marine that wasn't a complete jerk.

We used to use pretty harsh (but effective) training methods, like blanket parties, night time PT, punishing the entire group for one guy's screwup, etc. Now they talk it out, counseling, etc. The "kinder, gentler Navy" was an actual saying that they used to get dinosaurs like me (at 30 yrs old!) to let up on the kids a little. I was a defense contractor for about 12 yrs after I got out, and I did grooms on the ESM suites onboard. Most of these guys couldn't operate the gear (including navigation), much less troubleshoot or repair it. Good job security for us!
Hell, the Army doesn't even have KP duty or cooks any more. They hire civilian cooks at $90K/yr to work in the chow halls! That's why war is so expensive now, the gov't outsourced most of it!

I retired just before tailhook. Recruit training was in '63. It sounds like it has changed a whole bunch. Sorry to hear it.

Re: Can Justin Bieber use a tour in the Marines
In the wake of the recent rash of Canadians behaving badly – Justin Bieber and Rob Ford, for examples – the House has established an investigative committee to look into the problem and has scheduled hearings.
The first witness summoned to testify is Canadian-born Jeopardy host Alex Trebec.
Said the committee chairman, “We expect a lot of answers.”

Re: Can Justin Bieber use a tour in the Marines
As a Marine, I would VOMIT if he joined the Corps. Though I'd LOVE to see a group of DIs get their hands on him. He'd wash out of Boot within days.

I don't see him as a good recruit. Not sure what else to say.
