BVI

I am currently booked to do a sailing vacation in the BVI in November.
Has I am a fully vaccinated person with health insurance in the USA (normal working stiff). Has anyone travelled to BVI? Is it a smooth transition to clear customs? I understand that I will need a pretravel covid test and my vaccination card.
anyone with any information.

Re: BVI

Traveling into the BVI is never smooth, after 15 years of flying in and out annually and clearing in and out by boat several times I can state that with some confidence. The rules have just gotten easier with requirements for using the nasty BVI portal being loosened. As @leboyd has already recommended, the most current information is available on the TravelTalk website - almost daily updates on experiences.
The insurance is a tricky one, as the BVI requires proof of insurance that would cover repatriation and also covering costs if one fails the return COVID test; but many have used bog-standard US Insurance policies that don't cover those costs with no problems whatsoever.

Are you flying into Beef Island or into the USVI and taking a ferry?

thank you for the reply. I too have been chartering in BVI for nearly 20 yrs off and on. It never seems to be easy at customs and the airport is mostly a disaster.
I will be arriving on the ferry from St. Johns, so I will be clearing in at Road Town. I am fine getting the pre arrival covid test. It is the "insurance to cover all medical cost and repatriation" that seems to be the glitch. Lets be honest, no policy you can buy will actually do that.
My own US policy is quite good but I am unsure about which part of the insurance policy I would need to "show to the authorities".
TMM charter service is not particularly helpful at this stage. They seem to have no idea
thanks for the info however

I've been sent to the back of the line at Road Town on several occasions for no good reason. Definitely get all your ducks in a row before presenting yourself at immigration.

Re: BVI

I'd recommend posting on the BVI forum at TravelTalk Online with your specific insurance policy and I'm sure you'll get a response from someone there. It is a very US-centric forum and I've seen lots of posts with specific details regarding valid insurance policies. Odds are good that any insurance policy will get passed as acceptable.

Re: BVI

Look at MedJet for medical evacuation. That's what my wife and I use.

Re: BVI

Hi all,

If you check the BVI abroad Facebook group there are a couple contacts who can tell you if your insurance will be approved- Lynette Harrigan is one I believe. You also need to pre-register for a rapid antigen before you arrive now if you are vaccinated.

Re: BVI

Thank you all for the replies.
I am also at boat show">Annapolis boat show and the BVI tourist board is going to be there. I may ask them the question but I doubt I will get a great answer

Re: BVI

Say hi to Jim from me I don't know if they have any additional information on protocols, but they can point you towards the best beach bars...
