Board/card games for boats

So I'm looking into fun boat-friendly (ie compact) games for boats. Looking for ideas that other people have hit upon.

Aside from some cards and dice, I've found an icehouse set to offer good variety plus it all fits in a pouch.

Anyone else?

We have a small Scrabble game in a metal case with magnets on the bottom of the letter pieces.

Re: Board/card games for boats

Wifey B.....because I'm the playful one....

Don't forget X Box and Nintendo either. Plus we like to play some of the games on our computers so we just bluetooth into the large screens and use a tablet.

But then board games and cards are fun. The old games like Monopoly still are fun. Depending on who is playing we have some adult modifications we may make to the game too. In fact we can pretty much modify any game. It's fun to do.

And have some kids games aboard if kids might be. Now that's when games are really fun when you can play a kids game with them on the floor.

Normally at home we think chess is too slow but when you're on the bridge just enjoying the moon and stars, you don't care how long it takes.

Cards, have games anyone can play like Uno, and Spades and Hearts but then have others you enjoy. We carry a portable poker kit. And don't ruin poker by making it big money. On the boat make it low stakes or tournament or anything but just for fun. We play Bridge and Canasta with those who enjoy it.

I think this is like a great topic because it's something people overlook and then find themselves bored on the boat. I mean when you're home what do you do at night? Surely you don't go clubbing every night. Heck, you probably don't play enough of these games there either.

We don't have kids but we'll always be kids. We spend a lot of time on land at a couple of orphanages and love to play with the kids there. So we know our kids games.

TV games like Wheel of Fortune.

Then sometimes maybe separate you have things you love. Like Sims? Or some business empire building game or amusement park construction.

Oh, and check out the games at Spencer's or if you're the type to ever frequent adult type stores. Unfortunately too many are just drinking games and getting sloshed on the boat isn't my idea of how to enjoy it. But there are some board games there that can spice up things. And I don't care how old you are, you can always use that..

Much depends on who is present. With kids go one way. Just the two of you another. A couple of friends another.

But then never overlook the fun of just taking in the salt air breezes and looking at the moon and stars and reminding each other how much in love you are and how great it is to be where you are. Also, how blessed you are to be able to do it all.

Don't play Monopoly under an open hatch.

Re: Board/card games for boats

Lots of silly games from having grand kids aboard.

Bananagrams (double bag)
Anomia
UNO
Farkle
Tenzie
Bop-it

We have one of these but its particularly challenging in a rolly anchorage. Consider it a drinking game.

Re: Board/card games for boats

This is the board game I want to add to my boat, and I think quite appropriate to any sailing vessel: A 1600-year-old Viking War Game.

The game is called Hnefatafl.

Apparently, the image insertion plan is flawed, for some reason. Linked article has original, sorry.

We normally play in on either the computer or in bed. No open hatches but good advice.
