You do see the irony in this sentiment, don't you?
You are no more or less entitled than anyone else. If you can't simply enjoy being in the moment and being thankful for the opportunity to even be present, then maybe cruising and anchoring isn't for you.

Sounds like this boat was pissed off that all you other boats came in and anchored in front of him, blocking his view .
Seriously, this all sounds very silly and pretty amusing. We get into all sorts of anchoring debates here on CF. Someone anchoring too close, or with the wrong setup, or rode... all that seems legit. But complaining about someone blocking a view … now that’s a new one.

So, the items which you mention yes of course, should always be taken into consideration by someone showing up at an anchorage; no argument there. However, this spot has that added consideration. And I mention those resources to back that statement up. I get the feeling that with you no matter what I say you will have a comeback with criticism attached. This vessel BTW, was already anchored in the back of the bay and it chose to re-anchor in the evening out in front of everyone at the opening of the bay.
If you are in Bellingham and have over 1000 anchorages under your belt I'm surprised you don't know this about this little spot south of you. Possibly our paths may cross, hopefully not our anchor lines, and I'm sure you will feel entitled to anchor right in front of me

We're out of Bellingham. Boats currently in Australia. I know the bay you are taking about. I used to have my boat in Edmonds for a long time.
Yea, on this one I'm not likey to agree with you. But I'm certainly open to having you over for a beer if we end up in the same anchorage.

Re: Blakely Harbor SV Ayni rich jerks
With no blame to either side, since this last election I think citizens of the US have gotten very rude and intolerant towards each other.
Yesterday I absolutely came unglued on a senior citizen driving in the passing lane on the busiest traffic day of the year and not passing the car next to him. He just stayed there mile after mile. Once he did get past the car, he still stayed in the passing lane as it apparently is his right to drive slow in the passing lane and never get out of it. Now, these old jerks have always been there, but yesterday I was in a near road rage on him.
And it's not just me, all around people have dug in and become immovable in their opinions and actions. They just don't care what you think.

Sorry I about that. I was single handing the car and thought it was OK to put it on autopilot and take a nap, as it was a holiday weekend.

I hope you got an imaginary body shop bill for the damage that my imaginary truck did to your car after I ran it over. Next time you put it on AP, set a course a little more to starboard.

Re: Blakely Harbor SV Ayni rich jerks
Here's another viewpoint: Labor Day Weekend is a big semi-vacation time in the US. The weather's still good, many, many families like to go out for the weekend, and this results in what I think of as overcrowding. It is a time to be extra tolerant of others.
Although the bay in question has been mentioned in cruising handbooks, and guides, for its view of the night lights of Seattle, that does not mean that normal anchoring rules do not apply. The primary concerns have to do with enough swinging room, and how (on Labor Day Weekend) to maximize the numbers of safe spots. Sorry that one guy was unhappy at the sight of a 23 m. long one-off silhouette in the middle of his view, but such crowding is natural. And if the guy with the big boat wanted to show his guests the night lights, well, that's just something to accept, no matter how much class prejudice one has. There have always been the ultra rich in yachting. It's a fact of life.
No one's cruising grounds are perfect, and one is limited if one can only go out on holidays, but one shares this limitation with a whole lot of other people who just want to go out and enjoy their boats.

Re: Blakely Harbor SV Ayni rich jerks
Very petty - "S/V bigger boat anchored in my view". Not that they anchored dangerously close, or played loud music all night, etc?

Re: Blakely Harbor SV Ayni rich jerks
I had a great weekend and everyone was nice.
Even this guy was nice and let some other boats lock through ahead of him since it was going to take a couple hours for him to get his dozen barges through the lock:

Must have X-ray vision to see the Seattle skyline from the place referenced. It is in the San Juan’s. Maybe Blake’s Island.?

Try SE portion of Bainbridge Island, across from Seattle

Re: Blakely Harbor SV Ayni rich jerks
I have found that the very best times to anchor out are the weekend before and weekend after a national Holiday. Myself, I put the boat safely in a slip somewhere for any holiday weekend.
Of course, had this been me, I might have simply moved and dropped the hook elsewhere.

Re: Blakely Harbor SV Ayni rich jerks
Howdy Sabre,
I think you may have let your frustration get a little out of hand here. Over the last 10 years we've dropped the hook in Blakely at least 30 times, in several different boats. Sometimes we've had a perfect view of the skyline, sometimes it's been blocked by the other boats, and I'm sure sometimes we've done the blocking. Luckily we don't really care about a view of the city, we're there because we want to get away from it and don't have time to go farther. (or all the mooring's on the back side of Blake are taken)
I have no doubt that I've anchored outside of a smaller boat, but I hope that they wouldn't look at our current boat and assume that we are "rich jerks". I don't think it's fair for you to make that assumption either. If we do end up anchoring outside of you someday, come on over and let me know that the view was important to you, and after we have a beer, we'll see about upping anchor ;-)

Blakely Harbor is on the east side of Bainbridge just north of the south end and yes it has a good view of Seattle.
Blake Island is just south of Bainbridge. I have no idea where Blake’s island might be.
