Most of the marinas along the Nuese River will accept liveaboards and they are all unique with respect to their services. New Bern is a good choice; Oriental is a little crowded but there is a new marina at Whittaker Creek although the water is a little skinny. Good Luck. Rippy SV Tin Cup

I've started researching the same area. Though I've been down that way several times it was along time ago. Check out Boondocks Marina. Its up the river (I think?) from Oriental. The rates they advertise on the web are good.

All I know though is from the net and not firsthand, but it looks like a cool, out of the way place,

Take care.

Word around is that they plan to build a much larger marina on the same Broad Creek (near Oriental, NC) in the near future. They are building a new small marina on the Neuse River on the NE side of New Bern at this time. For the first time in a long time the Sheraton Marina and most Eastern NC marinas are either full or getting that way. Lots of migration to NC from NE and Florida. The entire east coast could use a lot more marina capacity.

update on the Broad Creek Marina near Oriental, NC. The owners dug out the marina from the highwater mark and have built 400 floating concrete docks, which will make it the largest marina in North Carolina. The development is called River Dunes and the developer is also developing big buck home sites. At this time all they need to do is open up the dam and flood the new marina area. They may delay will they work on support systems, hire personnel, etc. Broad Creek is just off the ICW less than a mile or so before Oriental, NC if you are southbound. We sure need a few more marinas on the east coast to ease crowding. North Carolina marinas are now full most of the time. There is a new marina in Whittaker Creek (Oriental) and it has a number of empty slips but the marina has some issues with skinny water.

I don't know if his is still the harbor master down there, but I beleive he works a the Hilton Docks now. He lived aboard down there for over 10 years before his wife "asked" to move to land.
