GORD (& Anybody else still following)
Now actually planning on jumping on the transient dock(s)....ACROSS THE BAYOU (Chico) At
"Pelican's Perch Marina & BoatYard"...about 1.5NM fm where we're
on the hard now, & a whopping $25. a DAY w/BOATUS Membership!
I can live w/that # for 2-5 days as the goal was to return back here, muster crew &
head back w/1way rental car. An additional burden was the fact that the
current yard has 18
Boat Stands (only 6 of which are under my boat) that I needed to reclaim & return here with. Already gutted a pathfinder so they "should"(when stacked & then "inserted", at least the tall & short Sailboat models) Fit for the return after splashing trip home.
Multiple cans of worms now closed & contained. Looks like heading out this pm late for early am arrival to do the nasty (touch up
bottom paint, etc.), organize, & splash. 2 days of "stupid stuff"(like RawWater Impeller replacement, etc.) & across the bayou she goes.
Thanks Everyone for the assistance & good thoughts (as in prayers!).
Gord...
My Grandfather had a saying (actually a bunch of them) :
"Engines are for folks who never learned to sail".
W/all the shallows, ripping tides in jetties & cuts to the
ICW, Sandbars that CONSTANTLY Shift (usually to the MIDDLE of the channels), and the clue that You're in trouble of FWB 2 miles from breakers w/a 5'
Draft and see surf fishermen 100yds away casting practically to Your
hull standing in 4' of H2O (w/an "onshore" breeze of course)...I've learned over the years to modify my GF's statements of "fact".
"Engines are for folks who never learned how to sail, and the Coastline of the Gulf Of Mexico". Don't worry Gord, I'll try to "pollute" as little as possible (we don't own any "
motorsailers" for just that reason). Will fill Y'all in on the return trip as it happens (oh, yes,
internet on board is not a biggie compliments of the Palm Treo & when it gets signal, I can get online w/the
laptop; we will be looking for better alternatives once back here as well.
