Marina with slips and boatyard - Tampa / St. Pete area

Folks,

My boat is returning from a long term charter and will be arriving in the Tampa area late December. (This will be the boat's first time there since she left the Gulfstar factory back in 1979!)

I need a marina for 2-3 weeks to haulout, inspect and paint the bottom, and then re-launch into a slip for another week or two while I do some basic maintenance / cleanup

Place should have a travelift, a yard where I can work on the boat and where I can hire folks to work on the boat. Ideally, I'd have flexibility to bring in outside contractors.

I need to be able to stay aboard while the boat's in the slip.

Ideally, a place to grab a drink or a burger once I'm done working in the bilge.

The boat's 50' long and has a 6' draft.

I'm flexible on location as it will only be for a couple weeks, but I'll be flying in and will have a rental car, so a place to park and proximity to chandleries and the like would be nice.

Cheers,
Colin

It has been a few years and it is not the cheapest either.

Every person that helped with my boat was good at what they did. That means/meant a lot to me.

If John (I hope I remembered his name correctly) is still there running it he is probably still a very good guy.

Thanks. Will check it out. It seems like there aren't many marinas that actually have a functioning boat yard. And that boatyards don't have much in the way of marina facilities. Am I reading this correctly?

I'm not really sure but apparently the number of places that will let you do some of your own work are fewer and fewer. This one has some dock space that they will (at the time) rent for in-water work.

Hello Colin, maybe contact Cap'n Dan at Dolphin Landings, great guy who normally leads the Christmas boat parade around St Pete Beach, his original charter boat, Phoenix, is a Gulfstar 50 ketch, which he has had since late 70's - if you make contact feel free to mention my name, Joe Celeste

Re: Marina with slips and boatyard - Tampa / St. Pete area

I would suggest haul out at Salt Creek Marina for dry and the Harborage at Bayboro for wet, both are in St. Petersburg and within walking distance. I am sure there are a few boatyards on the east side of Tampa Bay with marina facilities, I just can't remember the name maybe Shell Point. I'm not sure if they are self service though. Also in Tampa there is West Shore Yacht Club and a boatyard on the other side of Lazarra, I think it is the old Trident Shipyard. But that yard is mostly big yachts, so it might be expensive.

Good luck!

Thanks for the offer Nick... Not sure yet what my timing is (likely first week of Jan), but will reach out to you as I nail down dates.

Cheers,
Colin

Re: Marina with slips and boatyard - Tampa / St. Pete area

A number of folks have suggested Salt Creek Marina. I have left messages there, but haven't heard back from them yet. Will also check out the other suggestions too.

Thanks all for your input. Any new suggestions are still welcome as I haven't got a spot yet.

Cheers,
Colin

Re: Marina with slips and boatyard - Tampa / St. Pete area

Another option would be Maximo Marina and Boat yard. I don't think there is any self service there. I paid them to do the bottom and while they were working on it I did lots of work myself.
