Marina Ixtapa dangerous swell warning.

A fellow commercial skip has recently given me a heads up about the often dangerous condition of the entrance to Marina Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico. Due to the failure to complete construction of the dogleg barrier to the South of the main entrance, the entrance lies exposed to the South, and therefore to the danger of long period old ocean swells from the South Pacfic. These may be hard to detect while at sea, and when entering at night the situation may be invisible until it is too late. The marina entrance is infrequently closed and rarely is information given out about the state of affairs at the entrance. Advise keeping a careful watch on long range ocean data on approach to this marina and acquiring shore contact live advice as to the actual state on approach. Caveat Navigator!

Re: Marina Ixtapa dangerous swell warning.

My colleague has just suggested that add that the Marina is deemed CLOSED when a red flag is flying on the point where video is taken- otherwise it is yellow. If you go out under red flag you are not welcome to return.
