Leaving a Cat alone

Another thread is talking about finding Marinas and someone suggested leaving on the hard.
My question is what are the facts or even opinions of extra stresses if any
on the boat when on the hard for months compared to being left in the water in a Marina pen.

Re: Leaving a Cat alone

Never is a really long time but I would say "I'll never leave my boat unattended for the off season again in the water". Forget about the stress on the boat when on land, it was really hard on me in the water. Every time there was a tropical storm warning I'm freaking out, let alone a hurricane. Add to that the worry about sinking or marina staff using your boat - forget it.

Now I arrive at a marina, clean the secure the boat for two days, have it hauled and head to the airport. Much better on my stress. And, my insurance is 1/3 as much as before. I think the boat likes it better also.

Re: Leaving a Cat alone

Once hauled and blocked the stess is largely static until you lift her up to launch.

In a slip, you are trusting that for weeks or months, a line doesn't let go and have the boat banging against the dock.

Assuming you haul and block properly, I would trust on the hard more but there's always the exception.
