Florida Marinas Monthly Costs?

We are considering moving the boat to Florida next January/February. Would be liveaboards needing elec and water. Need a marina somewhere between Jupiter and Miami. Can anyone point us to research or experience in terms of monthly marina fees in this area? We would be 30' monohull. Even an average ballpark guess would help.

Why don't you just look them up on Active Captain and call them up to find out??? Kind of like going direct to the actual source.

That's in season so it will be more competitive / expensive than in the summer. I stayed in WPB at two different marinas last fall and both were about $1100/mo for a 27'

Look at Lake Park just north of WPB. A nice little community there and the prices are a bit more down to earth. You will have to make a reservation well ahead of time.

Look at the activecaptain interactive map. Lots of marina info to be gleaned there. You may be able to find something reasonable, esp if you sign a long term contract.

You could try Skipper Bob's Marinas on the ICW (not the anchoring book). Also the Active Captain website and app has most of the marinas.

Dinner Key Marina in Miami cost me $618 per month + tax including electric on an annual contract for a 35 footer. Very nice facilities and a short walk to the heart of Coconut Grove

Assuming that a liveaboard in season marina even in the cheaper areas of Florida will be at least $20/ft i.e. $600/mo for a 30 footer why not invest the $3000 you would spend for a 5 months stay in a watermaker and some solar panels and anchor instead? And if you plan to do it every year you could really splurge and invest say 2 years' worth i.e. $6,000 and have the top of the line both watermaker and solars.

Thanks all... This is helpful. Gotta make some calls. Anything 4 figures would be out of budget. Anchoring is possible but would be wife's first such go and was hoping to press with convenience...

Generally, the further away from Miami you are, the more reasonable. In the Fort Laud area, "reasonable" can mean only a couple of miles from an inlet--but with bridges, no wake zones, and manatees, the ocean can be an hour away. And whether you need to commute will also be a huge factor. Public transportation is a cruel joke unless you only need a local bus ride, and commuting on I-95 is as bad as any urban areas ever get. Then of course, hurricane season plans and insurance are to be considered.

Loggerhead in Riviera Beach does not list liveaboard on their website but do offer it when you call to check rates. I can't recall exactly but I think it was something in the 700-800 a month range.

You could also check Indiantown Marina in Indiantown. No, its not on the coast but iws considerably less expensive and is often used by snowbirds over the winter. Also good for repairs, etc.

Not saying your idea is bad, but there are many marinas in Florida that would cost much less than that. More like $12 -$14 a foot.

Agree about active captain. First outing for wife? I'd go with a marina. If weather gets nasty while you are ashore and you have a scary, wet dinghy ride with a dramatic boarding on the boat, that might be the end of the deal with her. Baby steps first, in my opinion.

I won't stay in Loggerhead marinas. Its my understanding that the ownership is one of the sponsors of anchoring restrictions. I wonder why?

Ft. Pierce is a great place for liveaboards. Right near the inlet as well.
