After 24 hours, I give the new format a . And for those of you who want to capture those close-up photos above, I find JShot to be an excellent easy-peasy free screen capture utility. JShot 1.1.1 Download - Freeware Files.com - Graphics Category

We set a max width of 1260 pixels because the header image has to fit. a) this allows us some control over the layout to make sure we know how the site is going to look b) it's hard to find panorama shot much wider c) the photo gets to be to large in size for our friends on slow connections.

We are planning to tweak the colors based on everyone's feedback (which has been excellent). Give us a couple days to get it all straitened out.

Really like the wide format...well done!

With everyone else on the colour it is just too lacking in contrast.

Only one gripe from me so far. I am missing the posters details on the recent discussions box as I tend to choose alot of what I read based on my favourite posters.

I agree with the blue / turquiose thing - I only signed up 'cos it was blue!!!

I like that the threads and pages I have not read are bold now - that makes life easier. I like the 'view first unread' button - I never noticed it before - is it new?

I like the 'recent discussions' list on the right.

Most of all, I like the members still!!

But I still can't get a list of the threads I have posted on in reverse date order - the only threads that come up are those I posted on in the first few weeks.... Getting the blond dye out now!!

Maybe I shouldn't say this.... but I didn't even notice it!

guess I am simply too busy reading

conclusion is: don't ever bother what my opinion is of any software, I'll just maneouver around it if needed

I can never understand why people need to change things when there is no reason to...
But maybe there is a reason. If so, what is it?

My vote is still on hold.

Ya know,

I like the new look from a cosmetic standpoint.

It would be nice if a compromise could be reached and maybe shrink the advertising area down to the same percentage it was before.

Or better yet, make it a choice between the old format and the new.

Regardless it is still a great and informative site.

I will cast a quick vote for the "better" banner splash as suggested by NYCSavage (Mrs. Palmer is on vacation this week and does not get a vote )

What happened to the additional info that was displayed with the avatars?

Clarification

Don't get me wrong, the site has to be supported by some form of income, and advertising is a great way, especially if the ads are boating, sailing, gear etc... related.

Which is why I don't run any kind of ad blocking software, I want to know who is supporting the site, so that I can in turn support them.

But that does not mean that I want the ads to dominate or overpower the usability of the site ...
(well, unless of course it is one of my ads ).

smallyachts, you can disable the right hand column and the site will be exactly like it was before. I am also investigating other ways to remove the ad if people want to leave the right column in place.

Thanks Andy R!,

I disabled it and you are right, much closer to the old format.

I also realized that I can minimize the sponsor link window.

I have re-enabled the third column and will wait to see if there is an option to just disable the additional sponsor link window.

Am I correct in assuming that the horizontal banner ad is the same as the sponsor link window content?

Any word on the missing information from the avatar area, name of boat etc...

I too thougt I had been hijacked to some awful place in the former Soviet Union. However I soon recovered. Man up there DOJ, if Gord can handle it you can too.

something to think about down the road. I sometime access CF via my iPad, in which case I prefer to disable the right-hand column, and sometimes via my MacBook or iMac, in which case I want to enable the right-hand column. At present it's a click-click-scroll-click process to switch back and forth. Perhaps a more simple toggle could be arranged?
