Moving servers...

I appologize for the late notice but I wanted to let you know that I need to move our site to a new server tonight. I have moved 10 in the last 8 days so I am getting pretty good at this so down time should be very short. I actually already have a copy of all the files and will only have to re-sync for new attachments and do the database backup so it could be as quick as 30 minutes (knock on wood). There is always a chance that we will have some bugs or strange issues so plan that the site could be down up to 8-12 hours. I will turn the site off around 11:30 EST (New York City time) and then start the move.

I will post an update to this thread when we are up and running on the new server.

We are up and running on the new server. It's going to take a little time for the server to cache everything in RAM and get into a groove. It will also be running pretty high load until the other servers arrive the new data center. They were shipped today and should be there Monday.

Andy - getting a lot of 505 errors since the move ... along with times of "Not Available" ??

The server had lots of problems in the last 24 hours. It's one of those things that you have to tweak but you need actual traffic usage stats to make the adjustments. I think we made some good optimizations today and should be pretty stable. Some of the servers from the old data center are scheduled to arrive tomorrow so we will get them online this next week to offload some of the load to.

I've noticed that since the server change that when you click on a users profile, including yours, you get a message that
"This user has not registered and therefore does not have a profile to view" Is that a problem with the new servers or something else?

I got this fixed today but still have a few issues to work out for names with irregular characters. I hope to get all the profile links resolved this week.
