Announcement: Member Map!
I just wanted to let you know that you can now add your "pin" to the member map and show us where you are these days. You can find a link to the map from the globe that is part of the top or you can just click here.
To add your "pin" on the map, click on the "Your Entry" button (or click here). You can then use the map on the right to zoom into your location and set your "pin". Dont forget that you can also switch to satellite view so that you can better see exactly where you are.
Of course you can just plug your latitude & longitude if you have that handy. You can also add a little message to show with your marker (maximum 200 characters long).
This will be fun to see once lots of our members have placed their pins!!!

Obviously, I made an error in posting my original Lat/Lon, which I subsequently corrected (49N x 89W).
Did it take?
I have to ask, because I cannot get the map to display. I’ve clicked on all the links Andy posted, followed the prompts, and tried the Globe - all to no avail.
For info: My OS is Windows 98, my Browser Netscape 7.0, the Computer is beige & my Desk is brown, and I’m left handed.
Anyone have any advice?
BTW: I’ve done engineering work in Mongolia, but never got to actually visit the site (the Architect always went alone).
Thanks in advance,
Gord

It's that left hand thing When I was in school, they were convinced that everyone needed to be "trained" to be right handed. Screwed me all up, but since, as everyone knows, all computers are right handed...
Seriously though, I think Rick has the answer. It is in the Active-X components. I have not used Netscape, so I can not really comment on how well it works with different software.
The one issue I have had with the member map that I have not had with the Google maps in general, is that when I try to zoom in, it moves the center location. Makes it hard to zoom in on the location.

Gotta tell that left hand not to make that map to drift, Kai?

I'm not the one stuttering here Kai.
Check out the rate your boat thread!! Talking about a classic case of "hooked on phonics"?

Rick:
Are you recommending I download “Internet Explorer 6 SP1"?
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
Can I alternate between Windoze Exploder (that screwed me up, for a mo') & Netscape, at differing times?
Thanks,
Gord

Thanks again, Rick.
It looks like I’ll have to forego viewing the map, as I have absolutely no faith in unka bil, nor my own ability to follow directions.

I had the same problem as Gord upon entering my Lat/Lon initially. For me, if I entered the Lat/Lon manually, I ended up in Kazakhstan. Seriously.
It only worked for me if I used the Google user interface and zoomed in to my location.
Seems a little buggy.
