You Can Run but you Can't Hide

There's an interesting article about being spied upon and tracked, like Google on the Wide World Web, here.....

2014 year Archive of Maritime Reporter magazine and click on 'Cruise Shipping Edition' and read the article 'You Can Run But You Can't Hide' on page 24.

Re: You can run but you can't hide

Wow - thanks for the link but that was a bit of a slog to read through. Basically people are collecting your AIS data so they know where you are. And this company is also figuring out how to block the spoofers - people that would try to incorrectly report their AIS data.

OK - Not to be cynical but this is 2014. You turn on a piece of transmitting electronics and someone is gathering your signals.

Just a few days ago I was trying to reach my kid, a friend had shown up to meet him. "He's not here. I don't know where he is."

"Ah - no problem Mr. Dan." He opened an app probably called track my friend and said - "He's at the mall, I will meet him there." he showed me the map and the "pin" and the pin had my kids name against it.

Kids today think this is completely normal and have no idea about privacy.

Hell, Dan, when they have been busy baring all on Facebook or whatever, why would this bother them? I fear that a lot of youngsters will live to rue these activities, but I will likely not be around to say "I told you so"! Too bad...

Yup...

The crap part is I have facebook (only for family) but gave up on actually posting stuff. Useless. My boat has a facebook - that was a novelty.

But now I "have" to have a FB account as part of responsible parenting so I can see what is going on with them because all the other parents have it. The other day I started getting "pings" from a few of his friends by instant message - I had no idea that they could even find me as I have repeatedly screwed down the security levels as FB keeps "improving" them for me which requires a complete feckin' audit of 12 screens.

I must have a "friends of friends" vulnerability somehow.

Re: You can run but you can't hide

I can only imagine how boring it must be to catalog all that tracking info. In years past I would regularly go off line and then popup on the other side of the continent. To an outside observer it would have appeared unusual... But it was just my job. I almost never had ads targeted at me. Now I stay put more and the algorithms have me spotted. The ads are legion... Who can say where it all leads. It won't help sell me a car or a computer but if someone is making a better dingy, maybe.

Just goto the APP store. There are a few phone tracking APPs to be had.

Re: You can run but you can't hide

I got on Facebook to see how I could use it for a charter business I was thinking of starting. I only have people I know personally as friends. But, somehow this punk kid Zuckerberg and his company managed to put my friends Facebook birthday's onto my smart phone calender! I'm sure I must have agreed to it in the fine print somewhere in the signup agreement. Still it really gets me P.O. when they pop up. But, who wants to spend hours going through all the security options when FB will just change them again at their whim.

I believe this is the future. Everything and everyone traceable. I am considering starting up a business doing just this.

After all, how can this idea sound like an infringement of personal privacy to any christian?

Ecclesiastes 12:14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.

Cheers,
b.

And that's the first step to the "mark of the beast"
Revelation 13:17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.
Quote:
The Mark of the Beast
16And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, 17and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name. 18Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.

a credit card,
an SSN,

?

Spring 2014 we were refused entry into Antigua as we did not have a profile on EasyClear. We were refused a profile on EasyClear as we did not have email address.

The beast is shaking its head.

I hope Google Glass will at least have an instant porn application.

Not to worry, the apocalypse will be preempted by sharknato. But the sharks will know exactly where you are.

Four numbers... 1984

I think you're right in ultimately this generation of youngsters may wake up and realize they have no privacy and soon after, no rights. A slippery slope.

And don't forget your Safeway card, drivers license and even my new passport has a chip in it. Your info can be scanned while just walking around in public.

Re: You Can Run but you Can't Hide

We are currently in Spain and I was shocked when I Googled our boat name and not only did it have our present location and also some past locations but there were several pictures taken of us (the boat) at anchor along the way. Why does someone take pictures of boats and post them on the tracking site? Good thing I'm not hiding from my ex. LOL
