I understand that in some places, if they ask you to remove your shoes, they'll properly clean and shine them after the x-ray inspection. (G)
I think we agree. From what I have read the TSA has become a joke. I do remember prior to them, having to let the people, at the gate. keep my marlinspike when picking up my Mother at the gate and a metal detector. Times change. I hope it is for the good. I'm old enough to have flown with a gun in my back pocket.

Yes, pyrotechnic flares are readily available in Canada at all marine stores and even Canadian Tire. They are however, expensive, even in canadian dollars.

As an aside, we had WEST MARINE in canada too...but they have just closed all their stores in canada. Now where will I get my overpriced marine goods?

What??? Are you sure? I was in one a week ago that didn't look like it was about to close.

Just found this. They will phase them out over the next couple years, but most will close soon. Damn.

Our local WM store in Kingston Ontario carried only scraps and empty shelves this summer, and is now closed.

Marine Outfitters Canada is in Kingston and doing quite well. Unfortunately, they are miles and miles from the popular downtown marinas.

Sooner than that. The Victoria store was to be the last but they sold the lease and are closing in a couple of months.

There were always better options - that is why they didn't do well in Canada.
