Importing a sailboat with diesel engine to the US

Hi,

I´m currently trying to import and sell my swedish sailboat in the US. After a phonecall to the EPA I was told that since my engine; swedish sold Italian made Lombardini 30HP (installed 2011) does not have a US emissions Label I am not alowed to import the boat to the US.

Does anybody have experiance with this, Im certain that other boats have been imported to the US with similar engines.

That's news, lots of boats here with Lombardi engines....amongst other foreign built and much older engines.

The issue is lack of the EPA label...
You may or may not be able to get the engine maker to document that the engine meets EPA as is.
If it doesn't meet EPA, then you have to find out what modifications are needed.

That might turn out cheaper to dismount the engine so its no longer part of the boat and look for a different engine after importing.
And don't get the idea of putting it back... while chances of getting caught might not be high, the fines are.

Or just keep the boat registered as it is registered now.
