Greek TEPAH tax update

Hey all, just thought I'd put up a note regarding the new greek cruising tax implemented this past may.... You can now pay online, and interestingly for liveaboards, you can hand in your ship's papers to the coast guard and they will suspend the tepah tax the same as if you haul out onto the hard. Our neighbors are doing just that this winter.

I am not sure I understand what it is you have written. Its relevant to us, because we are going to be on a liveaboard and we want to register in Greece as a resident. So if I handover my boat's papers, i could be exempt from the tax - or is it that I would have to put the boat on the hard? Can you elaborate please. Cheers

Re: Greek TEPAH tax update

Only boats that are on the hard can be exempted from the TEPAI (Greek cruising tax).

Reread the last sentence of my original post. Our neighbors here most certainly NOT on the hard and living aboard all winter afloat next to us handed their papers off to the coast guard and are NOT paying taxes at their direction.

The boat can be exempted when not in use.

My boat was not on the hard, but happily afloat, when I handed in the papers to the CG. No problems there. But Greece is Greece, different CG stations may have different ideas.

Also, there is a stamp tax of 50cents when handing in the papers. They put a really big stamp in a book for the money

Re: Greek TEPAH tax update

In Preveza, the authorities require a letter from the shipyard that the boat is on the hard and not in use. I'd be interested to find out if your neighbors provided a letter written in greek attesting their boat would not be in use.

In Lesvos nothing was required. They had a look at the marina contract, though, but no special paper was issued.

Easy processs, only one place to visit.

This isn't news. If your boat is paying to stay in a boatyard or marina, no need to pay TEPAI. Please post on CF when a boat is anchored, "not in use" and doesn't have to pay TEPAI.
