Canadian Maritime Radio Station License form 3020

The PDF link on IC’s website is from 2014 and will not work with *any* PDF viewer we have tried. Does anyone have a PDF form that has worked for them recently that they could share?

You absolutely have to use the Adobe viewer - they have developed a new proprietary version and IC has drunk the kool-ade. I spoke with them when I got my licence and they confirmed that no other reader is compatible.

Except I’ve got the latest version of Adobe on all our devices and none of them can open it. I’m just gonna have to call them.

Try this one, works for me in Acrobat and Nitro (although Nitro warns about the XFA content that causes the problem).

Well I don't have Acrobat reader installed but Acrobat pro does open the files just fine...

Never mind, I switched computers. Acrobat Reader v21 works fine as well.

Just a thought, you do have to download the form and open it in your preferred reader. Clicking on the link just used the browser's default pdf viewer.

Oh, and this is on a mac.

The file is shown on the site as a .pdf file. It s actually a .xml file. An .xml file is Microsoft's version of .pdf.
Ònce you d/load the file, MS Word or notepad will read the file.
Hope this helps.

No. Not in any way.

xml = extensible markup language which is basically a marked up text file
pdf = portable document format which is based on postscript language and not editable in a text editor

Re: Canadian Maritime Radio Station License form 3020

I notice you posted this in 2021. Its now 2024 and there is a new version of the IC-3020...and it still has the same issue. I figured out how to get it open without downloading anything new, (I have an adobe subscriptions and was stunned it would not open and PDF file). Here is a cut & pasted copy of an email I sent to the registrar:

cut/paste:
Now THAT was an upsetting and stressful experience. After several hours I finally figured out how to open that IC-3020EA file...and it appears to be exactly the same as the first two files (pages of the same document sent as attachments preceding it) with exception that the signature portion could not be e-signed but only printed and then physically signed. Its seems the point of it was only to get a physical signature. Perhaps the people who design forms could simply have asked us to print it and physically sign it and save everyone the frustration. Regardless....taking deep breaths now...I got it done, attached hereto.

Now...for the MANY people (ie: cruisersforum notes of others so frustrated), the steps to opening it without messing up your personal Adobe subscriptions is to not try and open it from the email, but to immediately download it...but NOT left click open it; rather, right click and select "open with program viewer" (the second option). It opened in an instant that way. VERY frustrating, but we go it down.

Thank you,
Dan

Sounds like you were attempting to open the Can'tad'uh license form.

I once belonged to an organization people jokingly (or with seriously fearing) say is "trying to take over the world!) Light-heartedly, my response is the same as to your posit: What do you mean trying?

Thanks!! Been dealing with this all day but on a tablet. Zero luck even with new Adobe downloaded. Will probably wait until at home with an actual desktop.
