British Small Ships Register Change of Ownership for Aussie Citzen ?

Hi all, and very happy new year!
I am in the process of buying a yacht that is currently registered in London with the british small ships register. Can I transfer the registration into my name and keep the ssr in the UK as an australian citizen, no british passport? I have a neice in the UK and I can use her address. My wife was born in the UK.
Thanks for your help.
Keith.

Keith, the SSR is returned at point of sale and you register again. However, with a UK address and no checks at all, yes you could.

There is a link to the rules in this recent thread.

The SSR is a very low key registration which does not require documentation...If you go online, check the boxes and give them a UK address they send you a 5 yr registration for 25 quid.

I understand you have to be a Brit, like me, but no one checks. I even got them to post a registration to Miami for a boat I bought there and put on the SSR, but that did take some talking.

Thanks Pete and Phil, very helpful. Phil, do you have the link to the ssr page? Sounds a lot easier than setting up a new aussie ships rego, long expensive process.
Cheers from Keith.

UK Ship Register - Small Ships - Guide to Registration

It appears to say that Commonwealth Citizens can use. The 186 day residency is mute if you ae cruising the world like we are.

Hi again, found the site, looks easy?
UK Ship Register - Pleasure Craft/Small Ships
Looks like I can transfer the rego and keep the number, this will be good as it is plastered all over the main sail and the transom!
