minaret--you will be fine and all will go well--just carry that which is necessary--passport, fuel receipt from usa last port, and ships papers and fishing license--if you get your visa started in usa--is good--if not--is also good. if you dont have one by the time you pass ensenada, then consider the fact that you are cruising mexican waters sans permission.
crew list is made out in first port of entry. so is visa. is impossible to pay entry visa in usa--has to be done with specific banco in mexico. that banco has a branch office in port capt office in ensenada--ensenada is easiest check in locale in west mexico.
With all due respect Ms.Zee I have crossed that border many ,many times and have never been given the shake down by the US side..I think the corruption in Mexico is indegonious to Mexico...the place is 200-300 yrs. older than the US and it has always been a failed state according to history...all that is subject to change ,hopefully...DVC

Having just returned from 6 weeks in the Australian outback, I'm heartened to see that all the problems of travel documentation into and out of Mexico have been solved. It appears that it it once safe to travel there again... Viva Mexico!... Capt Phil

Just curious, have you contacted the editors at Latitude 38 about your story. Not only will they probably publish it but they have a direct line to the honchos in Mexican tourism that hate this kind of publicity.

If we can't consider the opinions of people who are currently experienceing the conditions we are curious about, then whom should we listen to? And why?

Nothing to do with the getting information or opinions from someone in Mexico. CS was only referring to a post from Zee where she seemed to think this case involved possession of a gun on board. That was a previous problem experienced by Panamajames, not svjudyann whose boat was confiscated.

Re: Boat Impounded in Mexico

I met this couple a week ago in florida and their boat is still impounded in mexico. They were told they didn't have proper paperwork and told to leave. They were planning on leaving the next morn but their boat was taken that night at 1am.
