Re: Bahamas cruising permit should I extend?

For anyone unaware, there is a process called "Regulariziation" that, according to a senior official in Marsh Harbour named "Frisco", is far more affordable than your entry and extension of a temporary cruising permit.

I haven't looked into what it is specifically, but when we spoke in May of 2024 at the Marsh Harbour offices, he said he doesn't understand "why people don't regularize if they're staying longer than 3 months". His words.

Again, he was a senior official and his knowledge and vocabulary on all things customs gave me no reason to doubt him. Certainly worth a call to the Marsh Harbour office to speak with Frisco, in my opinion.

Regularization is a standard extension of stay procedure.

What you are referencing is immigration. For your vessel/boat, customs/regularization is what I understood him to be talking about.

At least, that's what Frisco told me. I'm going to call him this week and get a better understanding in case I am mistaken. I will post what I learn after speaking with him.

Suppose it could be in regard to customs and cruising permits for the vessel or it could be the immigration status. Both involve routine regularization with the regulations.

On this page you will find information on official procedures for regularization of status in the country, such as citizenship, work permits, residence permits, among others: https://www.immigration.gov.bs/

Regularize means to:
Make regular by conformance to law, rules, or custom.
Change a system or situation so that it is controlled by a set of official rules.
Bring a situation or system into compliance with laws or rules.

Thanks for that, could be my interpretation of what I wanted to hear at the time for sure.

As stated, I’ll check in with Frisco and see if there’s any further meaning to it than just a TCP extension!
