Adventure and disarmament

Hey all,

So Iím debating sailing stateside to the Bahamas, Turks, DR to PR and maybe getting a slip there for a bit.

Sadly it looks like the easier path will to be to store all my rifles and pistols in the US and go sans firearms, which will be odd for me, guess even my long range bolt acton rifle would be a issue.

Question, what about bows? I have a nice heavy compound and light fishing compound Iíd like to at least bring, will any of the goverment types take issue with that?

Re: Adventure and disarmament

Bows are ok in most places, and spearguns and fishing bows I have never heard people have problems with. Crossbows are more difficult. But laws vary from place to place. In the Bahamas for example fishing bows are ok, but you can't fish with a speargun, only a hawaiian sling. I've never heard of anyone in Bahamas getting in trouble for just possessing a speargun on their boat, but that doesn't mean it is legal.
You'd have to contact the individual authorities to find out for sure, maybe some people here know more.

The Bahamas hosts archery competitions, so I donít think you would have any problems there. In fact last time we cleared in they didnít even ask about archery equipment.

What do you intend to use your bows for?

I would never take my four barrel set on my boat or any other nicer firearm.
I too wonder what you would do with a bow, seems like a waste of storage space to me.

I enjoy target shooting, be it 3 gun, PRS, or some 3D shooting or hunting with my bows.

Re: Adventure and disarmament

If you like guns and are going cruising why not embrace hunting with a spear gun where allowed? Seems to make more sense than a bow.

By hunting with a spear gun I mean spearfishing.

I definitely recommend learning spearfishing. Really good for getting you in shape, and sure beats sitting around with your rod in your hand waiting for the fish to come to you.
I'd like a fishing bow too though, never used one, but I used to do competitive archery.

Shark also tastes like chicken. It also makes very nice steaks that don't break up like chicken does, so is good on the bbq. Is a little bland without seasoning though.

The OP mentioned Bahamas as a destination. So won't be eating shark. The entire Bahamas is a protected shark habitat.
