Yanmar Air Filter

My Yanmar YSB8 does not have an air filter in it, is that a problem?

I cannot find one anywhere, does it even exist? Should I retrofit one on?

Re: Yanmar Air Filter

Many don’t. Theory is that there is no dust or dirt at sea. Well on my boat there is, and before I went serpentine there was belt dust.
I fitted a K&N filter to mine, it’s cone shaped and simply fits over the intake and is clamped, take a plastic elbow fitting, poke a hole in the rubber end of the filter and stick it in, then slip your crankcase vent onto the fitting so the crankcase gasses get sucked in.

You may not need a filter, but I feel better with one.

You must fit an air filter

It very common to be supplied an engine, minus the air filter installation

It’s then up to the shipyard to use available space to fit an appropriate filter

Donaldson is a common supplier

Consult the catalogue

Re: Yanmar Air Filter

We did the same as A64 on our Perkins. Installed a K&N and some household plumbing parts to mate it to the engine intake (rubber reducer) barbed 90 for crank vent and some hose clamps. Works like a charm.

Re: Yanmar Air Filter

I did the same for my ysb8> K&N was very helpful and shipped quickly. Thought it would lessen some of the engine noise but no such luck. Measured the intake neck and ordered exactly the right size to fit without having to reduce.
