Yanmar 3GM30F Rebuild

Just bought a C&C with stuck engine, prior owner says worked fine before 9 month layup and is likely rusted in cylinder/ring area due to compression release being left open.
Already pulling engine to inspect but>>>>>>
Question: Where can parts be bought for Yanmar 3GM30F engine?

Before you dig too deeply into that engine, ask for advice on boatdiesel.com. Often rings stuck to the cylinder bores can be freed with penetrating oil and barring the engine back and forth. If that fails, pull the head, drop the pan and remove the con rod caps. Try rotating the engine then as one or two of the cranks will be free to rotate one way or the other. Then pound on the piston top with a wood drift.

I haven't done any of this myself, but I have read about it on boatdiesel.

Fisherman here quite often have a stuck engine at the beginning of the season because they are pulled out and the engines never started WD40 will shift most things if you have the head off just squirt it on the top of the pistons and leave it for a couple of days to a week just keep spraying a little bit more each day.
Here are 12 steps. They are a bit drastic. If yours are just stuck spray it and rock it Bar it I would not hit the pistons unless the crank was off.

Re: Yanmar 3GM30F rebuild

Thanks for the advice;
Prior owner put motor oil in cylinder and tried turning crank at flywheel nut. The engine is very hard to access, so i planned to remove to workbench and try other methods to free up. If I need pistons, fine, but either way i need to find a supplier for parts. preferably near Alabama coast.

I know there is at least one dealer for parts in South Florida, Ft. Lauderdale, specifically.. But Mack Boring might be cheaper, even with higher shipping cost.

Might be advisable to shop around for best prices.

Yanmar imposes strict dealer territory control. Mack Boring is a big distributer but can't ship beyond their designated territory. Find the Yanmar dealer closest to you, probably Mobile and buy your parts from them.

And the prices will be the same everywhere.

Motor Oil is much to thick need thinner AK penetrating oil Wd40 (a silly question is the gearbox still attached?) check the number on the engine see if it is USA or EU. If for some reason It is EU I think you might have a small problem and will have to import the parts which is quite possible.

Re: Yanmar 3GM30F Rebuild

I would check with your local machine shop. They might be able to source pistons or rings through their suppliers. We regularly rebuilt engines from Mercury to Thermal King. It seems that the only difficult parts to source were seals and gaskets. The mechanical parts, pistons, valves, bearings ect. were not a proprietery protected part.
