I’m installing a Monitor Wind Vane now, have used them before, and fell in love, with them. Both myself and my wife, adding the Pelagic tiller pilot so little power draw.

From a singlehander who likes his sleeps point of view..
Its a pain in the butt to wake up after a few hours kip to find you been sailing off course for a few hours because the wind changed..
With a TP/WP the noise of slatting sails wakes one to the fact..

Fair winds,

The boat came with a windvane and tiller pilot when I bought it about 8 years ago. The previous owner had the boat built to his specifications for long distance cruising.
If you can, please post a photo of your setup when you have it installed.
Cheers!

Re: Would you get rid of a self steering wind vane if you had one?
Any of you guys interested in getting rid of your windvane, please let me know. I’d actually like to have one. I’m a fan of autopilot for shorter trips, but I’m considering doing some longer trips. Dave Roberts: 512-718-8444. Text me!

Re: Would you get rid of a self steering wind vane if you had one?
I have removed and am selling my Sailomat wind vane on Ebay, but only because I no longer plan any long distance voyages. If you are still cruising, a wind vane is the perfect partner to an autopilot and one or the other will serve you well depending on the conditions. It's nice to know that if your autopilot craps out you still have a backup, and some wind vanes have the capacity to act as a backup rudder. I would keep it.
