Wood strip molded over fiberglass?

I found some strips of wood mounted to the interior of my boat above the forward and aft portholes. These look to be part of the original construction and I have a suspicion of what their function would be yet I was hoping someone with better knowledge of this could comment.

+1....I epoxy in wood strips any place I want to screw something in. Wood holds better than drilling into FG

Original boats never had provision to add something down the "road" 10, 20 years later.
