Wood hull repair

During Hurricane Isaias, my boat suffered some hull damage. The hull appears to be constructed of strip cedar. The damage is about 3ft (1m) from the chain plate. What is the best way of repairing this while still maintaining structural integrity? Thanks very much.

Re: Wood hull repair

IMHO, unless you are a skilled shipwright experienced in wooden boat repairs your only option is to hire someone that knows what they are doing.

First step is to assess the true damage not just what is easily visible. Damage could carry toward the chain plate.

There may be more serious issues due to how the loads from the chain plates are carried through the hull. Consequently, you will need to preserve the structural integrity as well.

Hate to be gloom and doom but on the other hand you don't want your stick to fall down in heavy weather.

Good luck!
