Will zinc fish help?

Just had my boat dived and the zinc on the propeller replaced. The diver indicated that the hull zincs should also be replaced, but that requires the boat to be pulled out of the water.

I'm planning to haul the boat out this fall for paint work. I've hung a large zinc fish off the stern at the same level as the hull zinc. I connected the fish to the backstay, which is grounded to the boat's ground.

I'm worried about damage to the rudder - seems to be a lot of stray current around here as the zinc on the prop only lasted 6 months.

Do you think the zinc fish will keep me protected until I haul out this fall?

99.9% of the time, the boat suffering from stray current is the cause of it's own problem.

Do you have a galvanic isolator? If not, this should be your first move.

Re: Will zinc fish help?

However 6 months ain’t bad.
A zinc fish almost eliminates my zinc wastage, but I have it connected to the engine block though a copper wire, my stays are also grounded, but SS is a poor conductor of electricity.
I only have a prop zinc, no other zinc.

Better to attach the fish to the rudder shaft [ i know wrong term], i have a S.S. rudder, and use a fish to protect it, via the shaft.
