Will banging radio cable wear out?

Hi,
I have radio cable thatís loose inside the mast and bangs around a lot. I need to change the mast top antenna because itís getting very old and is rusty, etc. The connector is also heavily corroded at the base of the antenna. I was wondering if I should use this as an opportunity to replace the cable and maybe try the zip-tie trick to reduce the banging noise?
This did get me thinking about the bigger question of whether a banging cable will lower the quality of your signal or not. Any insight would be appreciated. If getting a new cable is recommended here Iíd like to do it all in one go, with only one trip up the mast.
Thanks!

Re: Will banging radio cable wear out?

If you can see corrosion on the outside of your connection between your antenna and its cable, I'll bet you a beer--make that a 6-pack--that your cable has corroded too. These connectors are not intrinsically waterproof and it takes very little water inside the sheath of the cable to destroy the fine wire in the weave.
