What's the main advantage of a 3000 euro 15hp engine over a 1500 euro one?

What's the main advantage of a 3000 euro 15hp engine over a 1500 euro one?

1.
Is the difference of price all about reliability? The more expensive the less chances it breaks? Also, does it last more years?

2.
In order to keep the costs low, do you think buying a 1500 euros motor is a bad idea?

thanks

Can you give more detail?

Are these outboard engines or inboard?

Are both engines same design or is one gas one diesel?

What brand engines?

Both new or is one used one new?

They are outboard, I don't know the brand yet, I can let you know later. Both new. I believe they are both diesel.

When you have all the info... give us a shout..
Right now the only thing I can say is the 3000 euro outboard will help you walk straighter... a lighter wallet...

If they are outboards then probably gas and not diesel. I think there may be one diesel outboard on the market but they are very rare.

If they are outboards then there can be a big difference between brands. A 15 HP Yamaha outboard may be expensive but they are very reliable machines.

Need to know the brands you want to compare and also if both are new or used.

Euro 3000 does sound like a lot for an outboard. A brand new Yamaha 15HP, even paying VAT shouldn't be more than Euro 2300-2400.

Maybe the difference in price is one seller offers a discount the other selling list price plus.

Don't think any of those make a 15 HP diesel outboard.

Price may reflect quality. From my experience, it does.

Buy whatever you like, see how it serves you. Then adjust your future choices accordingly.

Like has been said before, we cant answer without knowing the brand, condition etc. Are you asking about new vs used or a well known brand vs an unknown one?

Generally though, you do get what you pay for, although having said that, there are brands coming over from China now that on the face of it, seem pretty good value and still do the same job. A friend of mine has a Chinese made Hidea 5hp outboard on his tender and so far, its been totally reliable, seems well made and runs as smooth and as quiet as any other 4stroke ive seen.

Re: What's the main advantage of a 3000 euro 15hp engine over a 1500 euro one?

All right, thanks everybody. The thing is I don't know which brand to buy.

Is there any good 10-15hp motor (or reasonably ok in terms of reliability) I can buy for around 1000-1500 euro?

I usually boat in the weeknds only or during the week for few hours, and in the summer only, and I very slowly in the canals of my city.

If you can suggest me any good brand for that price, it would be great.

Just to be clear, you are looking for a 15 HP outboard motor, is this correct?

Presumably petrol and 4 stroke, again correct???

You would need to know if you need a long leg (shaft?) or not.

I can't help you with what is available in Europe and prices but I would suggest any of the main Japanese brands; Honda, Suzki etc.

Re: What's the main advantage of a 3000 euro 15hp engine over a 1500 euro one?

No, I can also buy a 10hp as well, it depends on the price differences between 10 and 15hp.
Yes gasoline. I have no clue if I need a 4 stroke one.

I don't know if I need a long leg/shaft. Is the length of the leg to the propeller? i will mainly use the boat in my city canals.
