What type of hoses to use for water
Not sure if this is the correct section but my hoses going from my water tank to my sinks are old and cracked, they look like automotive heater hoses. What type of hose should I replace them with that is safe for drinking

Re: What type of hoses to use for water
Pex is my tubular of choice for potable water, but reinforced vinyl tube works well also

Re: What type of hoses to use for water
Excellent! That's what I was thinking of using. Right now its hoses with barbs and worm clamp with leaks at every clamp it seems like. Pex seems to be problem free for years. Thanks

Re: What type of hoses to use for water
A lot are using Pex now days. Reinforced vinyl is good and easy to repair in Timbuktu.

Re: What type of hoses to use for water
I vote for PEX .Fittings are cheap and nearly foolproof .Pipe easily run.Crimper is about $35 or borrow one if a one off job. Fittings can be reused with new rings. I keep all parts and crimper in an old plastic hand drill tool box and stash it.Locals can borrow it.

Re: What type of hoses to use for water
So I went to that site. Figure alternate facts are at play. Badly written and but of the commenters got it right. Granted the older PEX is not the newer improved stuff but showing sewer pipe doesn't show much more than ignorance re the topic.

Ignore the warning if you wish. Do your own due diligence.

Re: What type of hoses to use for water
Pex is the go to here on Dauphin Island, AL for almost all new residential plumbing including for drinking. May have been a problem in the past, but there isn't one now as far as codes are concerned. Also good here because our homes are up on stilts due to hurricanes, etc, and a lot of plumbing lines are somewhat exposed to the elements and subject to freezing. Pex expands and contracts and rarely is a victim of freezing lines. Will be using it in my boat as well for replacement lines.

Re: What type of hoses to use for water
All of my hoses clear reforce with hose clamps. That's for hot and cold water. No leaks. Pex could deteriorate with UV light Had one to almost sink my boat after a months use

Re: What type of hoses to use for water
PEX is excellent, but UV will deteriorate it quickly.
I re plumbed my old house with it maybe 25 years ago, was originally Copper as I thought Copper was forever, and found out it's not.

Re: What type of hoses to use for water
Lets not conflate PEX with the older Poly-B.
Polybutylene (PB2110), installed during the 1970's & 80's, is no longer an approved plumbing material under the National Plumbing Code, so is not used in any new plumbing installations.
PEX (cross-linked polyethylene), however, is not prone to leaking.
