What model windlass do I have?

The chain keeps jumping and missing every couple of links. I assume I need a new gypsy wheel. Do I need a particular brand? There's a logo for a sailboat but the label has worn away.



There's an open hole on one side that's cracked open fibreglass. Any idea why or should I reseal? Inside looks to be a bearing about 10mm.

Looks like a Simpson Lawrence Horizon 600, or a 600GD if that's a drum I see on the other side. Could be a 900 - more powerful motor, and maybe a 5/16" gypsy vs 1/4" on the 600.

If chain jumps it means the chain and gypsy do not match and either the chain or the wheel needs to be changed.
If purchasing a new wheel, cut a short piece of chain and send to wherever you purchase the gypsy to get a match.

How old is your chain? Have you checked it for wear?

If the windlass and chain worked before and nothing has been changed then this is likely. Happened to a relative. The chain didn't look all that stretched out but replacing with new, same type chain fixed the problem.

BUT, if this is new to the OP or something has been replaced recently could be a mismatch.
