What can I spray a touch up job of 2 part linear polyurethane with?

I already bought the paint. So I will be using that. It’s the same two-part linear polyurethane paint are used for the boat itself to begin with.

I was looking at the Preval sprayer can you can reload it.

but then I saw a lot of really bad reviews about it not working or spraying. it was $200 for a pint of my paint. So I don’t want to waste that.

What can I use to spray this stuff for a repair area?

I do not have my old compressor and spraying set up that I used to spray the boat originally. It is not in that location anymore.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But I bought so much extra stuff around it: air/water separator, 3M PPS system adapter + supplies etc. but with just the gun and a little moisture filter in the line from your compressor, it should work.

It’s a Chinese knockoff of a $900 Japanese gun.

Chotu why not just hire a compressor and buy a proper spray gun? I have used cheap spray guns with 1.2mm tips and got good results.
Cheers

sorry. I need to be more clear. I thought I was. I’m looking to do a touchup. I can’t go out and buy compressors and things like that. So electric sprayers, cans you can refill, things that you use once and throw away.

Chotu I would still consider hiring a compressor and maybe using a gun like this below. It's only $70 and you could donate it after you have finished with it. I have used one like it and had great results. The trouble with experimenting with electric sprayers etc as you might end up with a finish no better than a roller job. Then you what sand it back and start again? None of the pros I know do touch ups with anything other than a compressor and gun.
Cheers

Chotu you were just saying you paid $200 for that pint so now you're going to drink it and just piss it on the repair? Thats what we often say when an owner does his own touch ups. I have no idea what a compressor hire costs but I know which way I would be going.

yeah. I know that. But I don’t have a compressor. I need an all in one solution. I’m not at a shop or whatever. I have left out a long time ago. My compressor is gone. My giant system to remove the Florida humidity is gone. I need an all in one. Refillable can. Electric sprayer. Stuff like that.

Cool. Can you send down a check then. You can leave it blank. I’ll just fill it in with whatever other stuff you are recommending cost. And then what? I’ll just donate that away when I’m done?

Re: What can I spray a touch up job of 2 part linear polyurethane with?

Spraying catalyzed LPU paint is SERIOUS ****... I'll assume you know this since it sounds like you have done it before, but this is for everybody else thinking about it.

A regular respirator is NOT good enough. You need positive pressure air-supplied equipment. No matter how little you are spaying... don't try to get away with less.

These paints contain isocyanates. Anybody remember Bhophal India???? On contact with the moisture in your lungs it decomposes to hydrogen cyanide gas and other stuff. This stuff comes under the "immediately dangerous to life" category.

Unless you REALLY, REALLY need to, put this stuff on with a brush...

Dwelling on it while driving around and running errands right now. Even a airbrush would work. Like a traditional T-shirt spraying airbrush.

I have a Paasche air brush that can do it, but it’s rubber seals fall apart with Awlgrip and it needs a compressor as well.

In your situation I wouldn’t hesitate using a Preval sprayer, nothing will work better without costing a couple hundred dollars minimum. It works just like a spray can of paint.

Chotu I don't understand what the issue is. The price to do a proper job is pennies compared to the value of your 50-foot cat. We all surely know that it's cosmetic appearance that helps a boat hold its value. I see this all the time, a nice boat where there's been short cuts taken and it looks terrible.

OK. You always know what you’re talking about. I’m going to trust you. I saw so many reviews about the Preval that weren’t good just now. but then again they were a lot of five star reviews that said it was great. I typically look at the negative reviews on things when I’m making my decision. Maybe those people didn’t use it correctly.

i’ll go ahead and get one of these. I’ll test it out with some other paint first of course to make sure it works.

A spray can of paint is all I really need for this tiny touchup. As a matter fact, the high build primer came in a spray can of it's own from the manufacturer since it's such a tiny job.
