We Just Started Another K-40 . . .

We just started work on this Kettenburg K-40. It's a quick and dirty structural job. Fifty one ribs, transom, aft deck, cockpit walls, cockpit sole, cockpit benches and belowdecks bulkheads. Seams and paint. As you can see, she's rough as a cob.
The boat

The transom

The cockpit

and

The salon

and

The galley

There's more but I figured you'd get the hint....

I've thought of that. Don't have the funding though.

Re: We Just Started Another K-40...

Well, they are a real sweet boat. I can't keep up with my brother's K in my Ingrid. He got a new 110% jib and now the thing points like a rocket. I enjoy seeing the progress.

I2f, I still have one available but I doubt it'd match up to your cat.

CharlieCobra,

You are a man of dreams and very strong conviction, we would all like to see updates on your progress of this fine Kettenburg. Keep Bellinghan's shipwrights training going, to few out there in the NW.)

I was thinking comfort and speed wise. not as much space in these older monos. Then again, how much space does a single hander need? One would certainly give you something to do when not actually sailing....

It's a life style. Any day at the dock is better for your head than almost anything else. Almost a zen to it.

Re: We Just Started Another K-40 . . .

Here's the progress on K-40 #35 as of Saturday.
The wood is starting to show as we stripp her down.

The transom is about ready to come out. Lot's of hidden screws buried in there, both under the ply and under resin that somebody slopped on. That slopped on resin caused the rot of three plank ends that I'll have to replace.

We pulled the aft deck, only to find that the rot caused by the piss-poor propane locker install, creeped past the line we cut at.

Now we have to pull the cockpit coamings and move the cut further forward. The rot also extended into some ribs. Charles also found rot in the sheer clamp so we'll have to scarph in a new end section.

I'll do another posting tonight to show the speed of the project.
