Watermaker Filters

I'm in the hunt for replacement filters and membranes for my Spectra 150D watermaker.

Anyone have a source that won't break the bank?

Spectra charges an arm + leg for there own brand filters. I buy filters at one third the price at Electec in St. Maarten when I'm there in the winter. Don't know of U S sources although I buy the carbon filters at Home Depot, try there.

Cliff, check www.filtersfast.com . They seem to carry just about everything. If you have the standard housing that takes 2.5" x 10" filters, you should be able to find what you need on the open market.

I got good prices at: Water purification, replacement filter cartridge, iron removal system, Fleck control valve They had exactly the same filters as Spectra, but at about 1/3 the price.

If you have a Spectra watermaker you must use the Spectra filters and membranes. Check your manual, it clearly states this. Also, your warranty will be void if you use different ones and boy do you need that warranty! ;-) Your choice for the most advanced watermaker in the world means you choose the most expensive too, and the price for filters and membranes that go with it!

Just to follow up on Nick's comments -- yes, Spectra does say that. I will add, though, that Ohio Pure Water has exactly the same filters. Same manufacturer, same part number, as the ones I got directly from Spectra. Only difference was the price, which was considerable.

Let me tell ya about Spectra filters. I just purchased a 200t unit. It came with a carbon block, KX Matrix+CTO/232-250-125-975, found it online for $5.50, the 5um pre filter is sourced out by the local distributorship and I don't know what make it is but it doe's not come from Spectra. It's a 5u pleated 100% poly cleanable. There ain't no magic about these filters. Just like the starter on my Kubota based universal M40b diesel, Westerbeke wants $980, Kubota wants $380, had at Napa for $150. This is the nature of marine manufactures.
