Water Pump Install

I'm doing a job for a friend and we need to move his water pump. It's the type of pump to pull water through the AC system and runs continually (unless turnd off at the panel.)

The question is: Does it matter if it is mounted vertically or horizontally?

I'm thinking not, but wanted to get some input on it before I mounted it.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Water Pump Intsall

Generally speaking you want the pump motor above the seal so that if there is a leak at the seal, the liquid does not flow by gravity down into or onto the motor. This means the pump is mounted so the motor is above the impeller housing. Sideways would also probably work if you had a leak but not as well.

Re: Water Pump Install

our's is horizontal, which makes all the connections easier, with no 90 degree turns at the pump. Turns collect stuff, especially here in FL. where the barnacles are abundant
