Resist the urge to try to correct any imperfections once the product has started to set up. You can always go back and fix them by applying a very thin coat once it is dry.

I concur. Two thin coats worked better than one heavy coat. Just like painting with anything else. I've had countless people ask me what I used on my decks, over three
boats, so "cheap" is definitely an opinion. I've even used a disposable chip brush to
repair some spots where I spilled
varnish by just dabbing it on, and I guarantee you couldn't find the
repairs. Like a lot of things, it's all in the application, and I confess, I'm very detail oriented...BTW, I have found textured gel coat to be incredibly slippery when wet, so much so that on the first two
boats I owned, I applied Kiwigrip over it
