Universal M25xp Diesel engine replacement

Hey everybody hope all is well. I have a 1972 Ericson 29 that once had an Atomic 4, and now has a Universal M25xp. The previous owner sunk the boat and the engine(M25xp) is messed up in many ways. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good option for a new engine. Should I just buy another Universal or is there a better option?

The m25 is reliable and ubiquitous. For your boat it’s the best choice.

The M25xp is really a Kubota D950. You could get a used D850 or D950 for less than $1500 and swap all the "marine" parts from your current engine. Last year I got a D850 on eBay for $1350. If your transmission also needs replacement you can get a PRM60D from ASAP Supplies in the UK for less than $500. It's a drop in replacement and is a better unit anyway.

Capt Jacques, i have a 25 universal 2002 for sale with transmission 2 alternaters one is Thévenoz original New never been installed the other one been rebuilt never used, the whole exhaust system, plus the panel and wiring, the engine has 2000 hours, i replaced my 25 universal because I thought it wasn't strong anough but the problem was the prop, too small, if you are interested the engine is in St Mary's boat services in Ga. I sell for $1000
