Trying to find spreader tip for 1978 Hunter 27

Hurricane Sally rocked us pretty hard. My Catalina did fine, no damage at all, but some friends' Hunter got it pretty bad.

Roller furling sail got shredded. Furler is still usable but the stay is broken, only the halyard was holding it up.

Both fore and aft stays are broken, all shrouds still good though. We have halyards run fore and aft as a bandaid.

Mast is bent at the middle. We're using the shrouds to tune it back in, spent this evening doing that very thing.

As far as I can see, we need to build new fore and aft stays and replace the port side spreader tip. The spreader tip had been damaged by a previous owner and instead of replacing the tip, the previous owner glued a piece of rubber over the shroud and moused it to the spreader.

The spreaders are round pipes. The spreader tip is like a solid cone with a 1" deep vertical slot in the middle. The shaft of the tip goes into the spreader a bit and has 2 spring buttons to hold it in.

Google hasn't shown me any love so far.

Does anyone here know where I can find spreader tips for a 1978 Hunter 27?

You might start calling around to local rigging shops. Sometimes they have mast bits hanging around, and thus are a good source for previously owned parts.

Another option might be to remove the one that's left, and take it to a machine shop to be copied for the other side.

You can start at Rigrite, if you open the link on a spreader size it will list some applications and show tips and bases used for that section.

Still haven't been up to get measurements or take pics. Right about the time we were rigging the bosun chair a squall started to move in. Will get pics and pull a tape sometime this week or this weekend.

Sally did a number on me also. You should go to "hunter owners.com" and you will get what you need. Good luck
