Most yards offer 2 products which vary in price and quality. They will probably recommend the more expensive one.
Make sure to ask them to coat the insides of your thru hulls, which will maybe save you diving on them with a broom handle when water refuses to enter or leave. They will also grease the Outside of your thru hulls with a rod making it easier to operate them!

Re: To antifoul or not

It is a few years since we owned our yacht in New Zealand, and I have forgotten what we put on, as a rule we re painted hull every two years from memory, and high pressure washed a couple of times a year. Painted soft anti foul.

Re: To antifoul or not

IF you need the Propspeed replaced, sure, it's based on an etched metal surface, no painting over the old layer. But, if it looks "as good as new," why has the question come up?

Re: To antifoul or not

Well this was the question I am puzzled with. It IS looking like new. I was just told by the commissioning company that when it has been left out of the water it needs replacing. So perhaps it doesn't?

Re: To antifoul or not

All the messages and suggestions have been most appreciated. I have now discovered the exact paint that was put on. I am trying to find something on the net, it doesn't tell me in the spec sheet anyway
It is sea jet 032 professional. It is tin free, soft polishing
I may be too late, this thread might be closed now

Re: To antifoul or not

I live on my boat. Swim next to it everyday, summer and winter. I’ve been watching that paint go away. Suddenly, it all went green, about 1/16 to 1/8” thick in a matter of 4 weeks. So a got an 8” scraper. Some paint came off with the green stuff. Paint is 16 months old.
Got a price of $2000 euro to pull the boat, wash, sand and repaint with just about any product I want. They say I need 15 liters for my 50’ hull.
But what if I just clean it constantly now...with the scraper and a brush??? Do I ‘have to have paint?
In the water, in the Canary Islands.
Grateful.

I know people that have tried that. It sounded like a good idea.

They painted within a few months. It grows really fast and it sticks tighter. Most sailors have experienced this with an area of pealed paint. It's bad.
