The Big Sailboat Experiment

I just finished watching a video series called the Big Sailboat Experiment about two Canadian women who built a 42' Bruce Roberts design steel sailboat 800 Miles from the ocean. Wow! What a project.

Thats some project those two Gals undertook.

I notice theres no more entries in their sailing log after their initial trip that didnt go so well. Where are they now

Dave,
I noticed that too. Seems their last entry on the website was Summer of 2011 when they said that their journey would pick up again in Summer 2012. I emailed them but haven't got a response.

Re: The Big Sailboat Experiment

My brother's friend started building an aluminum sailboat, 55' in length. He had plans but I don' remember the name. His jack stands were mounted in concrete while under construction. He did a masterful job although he had never sailed. He machined solid SS rod stock to support his lifelines.

Worked on it after work most nights, every weekend, every vacation. He was forced to launch it prior to completing it because the yard where he started the project some 25 years earlier was sold.

25 years - wow. Do you have info on where the boat is now?

Re: The Big Sailboat Experiment

Here you go. I'm a little reluctant to post post pictures of my work because I don't know what I'm doing, but here they are anyway. They are before and after of the hull inside and out and the bow.

I post photos and descriptions of my blunders constantly. If you take the flak you get for messing up constructively, it helps you in the long run. I'd much rather know what I'm doing wrong now than while I'm "out there".

Btw, that boat looks 1000x better than when you started. Keep up the good work.
