Teak Discoloration

Has anyone encountered a light, almost white, discoloration in their teak? I'm familiar with the mold induced dark and/or black discoloration, but these light blotchy spots, of varying sizes, are new to me and seems like it's caused by something else entirely.
I should add that I (quite stupidly) forgot to treat the bare wood with cleaner before I applied the first layer of varnish. Dumb mistake on my part and an example of how rushing a job can cause way more time and labor in the end.
Obviously, I need to go back, re-sand and clean before I can get back to my varnishing regiment regardless, but, before I clean the bare wood, I'd like to know whether this discoloration is mold related or something entirely different.
For the record, I'm quite familiar with the argument that teak shouldn't be sealed/varnished and while I completely appreciate that perspective, I like the look of varnished teak and feel it's worth the effort on my cruising boat. Teak purists... please don't hate me.

Sounds like the varnish just lifting of the teak.
