Teak Deck Repair

Hello,

I need to glue down a small section of teak decking and have two questions.

1) For the bedding adhesive, I can't locate a small amount of Sikaflex 298. Can I use 3M 4200? Or what is another readily available alternative?

2) The seam caulk is currently some type of tan color. Does anyone know of a suitable tan caulk? The closest I can find is Masterseal NP1, will that work?

Thanks!

Re: Teak Deck Repair

3M 4200 Fast Cure Polyurethane/Adhesive Sealant can be softened by some teak cleaners and sealers, and is not recommended for sealing teak decks.

Sikaflex-290 DC PRO is designed for the caulking of teak decks.

Sikaflex-298 is designed for full-surface bonding for sealing teak planks on bridges. This product is not intended for caulking teak decks.

Thank you. Perhaps I was a little unclear.

I am proposing:

4200 in lieu of Sikaflex 298 and
NP1 in lieu of Sikaflex 290DC PRO

Is this acceptable?

I think Sikaflex 290 DC Pro is only available in black color.

“MasterSeal NP 1 should not come in contact with oil-based caulking, uncured silicone sealants, polysulfides, or fillers impregnated with oil, asphalt or tar.”

NP-1 may be similar to other polyurethane’s (4200), in regard to teak.
I’d ask BASF technical Service: 1 (800) 243-6739

Practical Sailor’ magazine recommends thickened epoxy adhesive (WEST) for laying the deck, and a polysulfide (Life-Caulk) for caulking.

Re: Teak Deck Repair

3M 5200 comes in a tan color. Or used to anyway. Yes it will be hard to get up if you ever have to, but it's doable.
